DISEASED YOUTH

The truth should be told. I was a diseased youth. Syphilis, chlamydia, herpes- there was no sexually transmitted disease to which I was immune. I've had them all. If penicillin was addictive, I would have been in rehab for most of the 1970s.

I've had pills, I've had ointments and I've had procedures which I would not wish on my ex-wife. Even though she was the cause of most of my diseases. And yet today, I stand before you with a clean bill of health and a groin free of complication. You could eat your dinner off my genital area.

This cannot be said of the youth of today. The National Audit Office reports that 62% of under-18s are currently diseased. Such a stark statistic bodes ill for the future of Britain. Unless action is taken, our once great nation will become a cesspool of genital warts, our children will become shame-faced and infertile and an ageing population will be left to survey the wreckage of the permissive society.

It is time for politicians and sexual health agencies of all persuasions to come together. The flowering of youth must not become a garden of gonorrhea.

Securitate by Julian Loayza.

Love and respect to Julian for the two Securitate cartoons in this issue. Julian is an illustrator working presently with Breakthru Animation in Lodz, Poland. See more of Julian's excellent visuals here.

FOR THE WRECKERED..
The editor speaks

John Crow (above) speaks eloquently of how you could eat your dinner off his genital area. However, none of this should distract us from the fact that, since time immemorial, we have feared the unknown. Why do we fear the unknown? No-one knows. Comparison studies of the known and the unknown are notoriously inadequate, often for the simple reason that the unknown remains difficult to quantify - let alone describe. Until the unknown can be measured, we can proceed only on educated guesswork and instinct.

What can be said is that the unknown has never threatened us in a direct way. It does not stalk us on our way home from work, nor does it cause fires in faulty electrical systems. It is inert, yet powerful and beyond our understanding, much like the monolith found on the moon. Until we can define the unknown, we remain as wide-eyed children in the play pen of doubt.
